New World Mt Albert Reopening: Hours, Store Details and Facts

Reopened: Tuesday, 08 October 2024 (Foodstuffs North Island) · Closed for: 20 months (Foodstuffs North Island) · Daily hours: 7.00am – 9.00pm (New World (official store page)) · Location: Mt Albert, Auckland (New World official store page)

Eight checkable facts drive this story, and one pattern runs through them: nearly every confirmed figure traces back to the operator’s own announcement or store pages, while the rebuild cost splits between two outlets.

When did New World Mt Albert reopen?

The store reopened on Tuesday, 08 October 2024, after a complete rebuild that followed flood damage in January 2023 (Foodstuffs North Island). The operator made the announcement itself, so the date rests on the most direct source in this story.

Reopening date and trading hours

• Reopening date: Tuesday, 08 October 2024 (Foodstuffs North Island).
• Opening schedule at reopening: 7am to 9pm, seven days a week (Foodstuffs North Island).

Closure after flood damage

• Heavy rain fell on Auckland on the evening of 27 January 2023, and the store was severely flooded (Foodstuffs North Island).
• The store stayed closed for 20 months before it reopened (Foodstuffs North Island).

What this means: the reopening date is the best-supported fact in this story, since the operator’s own announcement carries it and no reviewed source contradicts it.

Does New World Mt Albert offer online shopping?

Yes, in one specific sense: the New World Express Delivery listing includes Mt Albert among Auckland stores offering delivery in as little as 60 minutes. Ordering starts in the online shopping account, where the customer chooses Book a slot, selects Delivery, enters an address to check availability, and then selects Express Delivery (New World Express Delivery listing).

What no provided source confirms

• Current delivery slot availability for Mt Albert orders.
• Whether Delivery Pass or collection slots run at Mt Albert, although the New World (Albany store page) lists Delivery Pass for its own store.
• Whether the Express Delivery listing has changed since it was captured.

How to verify online ordering options

• Open the Mt Albert store page and check its services before planning a delivery (New World official store page).
• Call the store on (09) 940 8339 to confirm slot availability.
• Enter the delivery address at checkout to see whether slots appear.

The trade-off: Express Delivery puts the store within reach of online shoppers, but a listing proves the service exists, not that it has capacity this week.

What are the opening hours of New World Mt Albert?

The official store page lists 7.00am to 9.00pm every day (New World official store page), and the reopening announcement set the same schedule for launch (Foodstuffs North Island). The capture date matters as much as the hours, because nothing in the reviewed sources confirms the schedule after it.

Hours listed on the official page

• Daily hours: 7.00am – 9.00pm, seven days a week (New World official store page).
• Page capture date: 5 November 2025 (New World official store page).
• Reopening schedule matched the same 7am to 9pm hours (Foodstuffs North Island).

Why current hours need checking

• No reviewed source confirms hours after 5 November 2025.
• A dataset captured on 8 July 2024 listed 7.00am – 9.00pm for the store (Agenty (store dataset)), three months before the store reopened.
• Public holiday hours for this store are not confirmed in the sources reviewed.

The implication: the 7.00am to 9.00pm schedule is the best-documented hours information available, but a shopper planning around a public holiday should call before going.

How is New World Mt Albert different from larger New World stores?

The reviewed sources give hours and services for only one other Auckland store, so the clearest difference is trading time. The New World Albany store page lists hours of 7:30am to 10:00pm daily, which puts Mt Albert’s opening half an hour earlier and its closing an hour earlier.

Smaller format and local focus

• The content brief describes Mt Albert as a smaller-format supermarket focused on quality and convenience, but no reviewed page confirms that label.
• The operator said the rebuilt store is “even bigger and better than it was before” (Foodstuffs North Island), which conflicts with the smaller-format description.

Hours at other Auckland New World stores

• New World Albany: 7:30am – 10:00pm daily (New World Albany store page).
• New World Mt Albert: 7.00am – 9.00pm daily (New World official store page).
• Each store sets its own hours, according to NZ Current (hours guide).

The implication: a shopper choosing between Mt Albert and Albany should decide by trading hours and services first, and by size only after the store confirms its footprint.

Which other New World stores are in the same Auckland area?

Two names come up around Mt Albert in the material reviewed, and only one has a sourced page. Albany is the sourced comparison, while Stonefields appears in the content brief without a page that confirms its address or hours.

New World Stonefields, Mount Wellington

• The content brief names New World Stonefields as a separate store in Mount Wellington.
• No reviewed source confirms its street address, phone number or hours, so this article does not list them.

Name confusion between Stonefields and Mt Albert

• The brief treats Stonefields and Mt Albert as separate stores, so readers should not treat them as one location.
• An Apple Maps (map listing) appears to show 7:30AM–10:00PM hours under New World Albany, not Mt Albert.

The catch: directory listings mix up nearby stores, so the street address is the only check that settles which store a listing describes.

Side by side: Mt Albert and Albany

Two stores, one pattern: both listings show hours and online services, but the reviewed sources cover the two stores unevenly.

The pattern: Mt Albert’s column holds the street address and a delivery service, while Albany’s column holds more listed services, so the choice turns on which service a shopper needs.

Timeline

• 27 January 2023: Heavy rain during the Auckland Anniversary Day floods severely floods the store (Foodstuffs North Island).
• July 2024: New World Havelock North opens, one of the operator’s 2024 openings (Foodstuffs North Island).
• August 2024: Four Square Huntly opens (Foodstuffs North Island).
• Early October 2024: Four Square Snells Beach opens (Foodstuffs North Island).
• Tuesday, 08 October 2024: New World Mt Albert reopens as the fourth store opening for the operator in 2024 (Foodstuffs North Island).
• 5 November 2025: The store page is captured showing 7.00am – 9.00pm daily (New World official store page).

The pattern: the operator’s announcement sets almost every date in this story, so the sequence reads as the company’s account, and the store page is the only later check on the schedule.

Confirmed vs unclear

Confirmed

• Reopened Tuesday, 08 October 2024 (Foodstuffs North Island).
• Closed for 20 months after the floods of 27 January 2023 (Foodstuffs North Island).
• A $6 million rebuild investment, cited by the operator (Foodstuffs North Island) and reported by the New Zealand Herald (business reporting).
• Daily hours of 7.00am – 9.00pm on the official store page (New World official store page).

Unclear or unverified

• The rebuild cost, because InsideFMCG (trade publication) reportedly reported $9.8 million.
• Whether delivery slots are available at Mt Albert today.
• Store hours after the 5 November 2025 page capture.
• A WanderBoat AI (user listing) reportedly says the store is open until 9pm, an hour longer than Woolworths at Point Chevalier.
• The Stonefields address, phone number and hours.
• The smaller-format label from the content brief.

The implication: the confirmed list rests on the operator’s own material and one business newspaper, so every item in the unclear list needs a call to the store before it counts.

What the sources say

“Lots of locals have told us how much the old store was missed after the floods, so we’re privileged to be the ones reopening it, and even bigger and better than it was before.”

Wanklyn, Foodstuffs North Island representative

Each store sets its own opening hours rather than following a chain-wide schedule.

Summarised by NZ Current (hours guide)

What this means: the operator is the only first-person voice in the material, so its praise reads as the company’s view, while the hours guide explains why no single schedule applies across the chain.

What it means for shoppers

The gaps that matter most to a shopper sit in day-to-day details: delivery slots, holiday hours and the cost behind the rebuild. For Auckland shoppers planning a trip to New World Mt Albert, the choice is clear: confirm hours and delivery slots on the store page or by calling (09) 940 8339 (New World official store page). Shoppers who skip that check risk a wasted trip, because the 7.00am – 9.00pm schedule is only as current as the 5 November 2025 capture.
